Perched on the hill at the back of Kilcunda, the house has direct views through the lower valley to the breaking surf. The ‘reverse living’ design sees bedrooms on the ground floor and the main area of the home located up on the first floor, with each room looking southeast towards the ocean views. The south and western side of the building shields itself from the weather through screen walls and vegetation. Towards the north, the building opens up with larger glazing to maximise natural light. Materials had to be carefully selected for this site. Rather than using natural stained material, we opted for paint-finished products to better protect the cladding from the harsh western conditions.
